We recently took a vacation to Joshua Tree. If you're from the West Coast you probably have heard of it but if you're from the Midwest or the East Coast, I doubt that you've ever even heard of it. Its a tiny little desert town in the middle of nowhere between California and Arizona. And Tory wanted to go. We live in the desert so for me I found it kinda silly to go on vacation to ANOTHER desert destination but whatever, I'm always up for an adventure. Well our drive there was definitely an adventure.

On the I-10 we hit a HUGE haboob which is a giant dust wall. If you've never heard or seen them before you HAVE to look it up. It's kinda cool. Anyway, we hit this Haboob on the freeway and then the rain was coming down REALLY hard we could barely see the cars in front of us. Not long after the rain started, traffic started to build up and we notice that there was flash flooding happening on the other side of the free way and it was flowing on the entire right lane. A few hours later (5) we finally made it to our exit which also had TONS of flooding. Like rivers flowing over the roads. YIKES! I hate doing stuff like this with the babies in the car. So we're driving and driving FOREVER and our map lady tells us that the road ahead is closed and she's giving us an alternate route to our right. So let me include that the whole desert to our right now looks like a lake because it's been raining so much. We decide to keep going down the original road to see whats up with the closure and if theres someone we can talk to. We end up seeing that the flash floods completely wiped out half of the road. I'm talking washed away, there's no more road, and we can't drive on it. It's starting to get dark now and there's literally no civilization remotely close by and we just drove down this long long stretch of road (no joke like 60 miles from the freeway) and we feel like the only option is to go back home.  Long story short, lots of cars were passing us and are driving on the dirt to get around the washed away road and we so we decide that's the best option and we finally made it there!

It ended up being one of the most relaxing trips we've had in a long long time. Mostly I think because we were in the middle of nowhere and our only option was to relax, drink coffee, and play dominoes. But it was so much fun. And these Joshua Trees do look pretty cool.

There were tons of ant hills and GIANT ants in the desert and Lo was pointing at all of them. She was worried they were going to get me.
